I have heard many complaints about reasons as to why Xyz monsters are going to shove out Synchro monsters the same way Synchro monsters have temporarily done for Fusion monsters and Ritual Monsters.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Xyz monsters are useless, and often, they have better effects than similar Synchro monsters, however, they tend to have drawbacks that Synchro monsters don't have.

1. Some Synchro archetypes are powerful enough to hold their own against Xyz monsters.
Since the release of Dragunity Legion, the Dragunity archetype has become A LOT MORE POWERFUL. In a single turn, a dragunity deck is now capable of unleashing Trident Dragion on the particular player's first turn. Before, it was just chaining synchros for Stardust. Now there's a great potential for an OTK, but not FTK if your definition depends on going first in the duel. It's not just Aklys and Leyvaten making this difference, but newer supporting cards like Dragon Ravine and Dragon Mastery.

Other archetypes, such as the Blackwings, have been considered broke since the time they were released. Blackwings in particular show enough power to continue standing up to more dangerous enemies.

2. High-rank Xyz monsters need Xyz material

How does one expect to get multiple level 7, 8, 9, and 10 monsters necessary for those high-rank Xyz monsters quickly? There are very few monsters capable of special summoning themselves without cost, and managing to summon more than one of these monsters in a single turn is very difficult. Sometimes, these cards will be given near game-beaking power in exchange for making them extra difficult to summon. If duelists figure out ways to lighten the burden of this, they can do much more.

3. Exhausted Effects

Almost all Xyz monsters in existence have this issue. Their effects force them to use up their Xyz material and when it's gone, TOO BAD! There aren't cards out there to replentish these Xyz material monsters, which means these effects often become used up before the monsters leave the field, often forcing them to experience their backfire effects when they have backfire effects. This can range from simply being unable to conduct a direct attack to being destroyed and/or damaging their owners.

-=-=-

Overall, I see the potential of Xyz monsters to be used alongside Synchro monsters. I just don't see ENOUGH potential to build decks entirely around just your Xyz monsters the way some Synchro monsters have been used. Although if you choose to do so, I suggest a few copies of cards that can bounce your Xyz monsters back and send your Xyx material monsters back to your deck because cycling through Xyz monsters may be the best way to run a deck based around your Xyz monsters.
a quick rant on my opinions of why these new Xyz monsters aren't going to shove out Synchro monsters. I highly doubt that it will get to the point where any given extra deck anymore will consist of 15 Xyz monsters as most extra decks around the 5D's era have with Synchro monsters.
